HISTORY

The first evidence we know of the historical development of Malaga wine, dating from the Roman Empire and Low is prismatic fermentation tank discovered in Cártama, about thirty kilometers from the capital.

During the Arab domination brought a bitter struggle between the Koranic rules forbidding the consumption of wine and drinking habit, which was rooted in our people. Little by little, with ups and downs, strong punishment until death penalty for drunk-were replaced by fines (garima), which gradually turned into taxes (Qabalan), to be paid by the sellers of wine and came to constitute a of the most important resources of the state.

When the Catholic Kings reconquered Málaga in 1487, found the picture you describe D. Cecilio Garcia of the Wood in his "Historical malagueñas Conversations":
"Our Catholic Princes Pathfinder cared the first thing to make this city happy, rich and powerful was the establishment      of a Brotherhood of vintners, to ensure the training of their wines, which even in the dominion of the Moors had done no small part its trade and wealth of their vassals. We know that the vines would be more than happy and opulence of their loved this town, not a small farm of their Royal Treasury, by the very product that would give to other extraction domains.

Years later, on January 12th 1502, the Catholic Monarchs in Sevilla confirmed by Royal Decree establishing the Brotherhood of Viner, whose union provilegios were confirmed once again by Doña Juana de Castilla in 1513.

In 1791 Mr. Gálvez, Spanish Ambassador in Moscow, gave to the Tsarina and Empress of Russia, Catherine II, with    a few boxes of wine from Malaga, and was so pleased that you have caused, which exempted from taxes all wines Málaga reach the Empire controlled by the Brotherhood of vintners. "

The Brotherhood said vintners union persists in its side in what is now the Board and its religious facet in the VERY OLD AND ILLUSTRIOUS VENERABLE Hermandad Sacramental de Ntro Padre Jesus Nazareno to Viner, NTRA Lady of Soledad and Transfer of vintners St. Lawrence Martin.

In 1806, by Royal Charter, establishing the House of Commerce and Company vintners of Malaga, that "in order to forestall possible adulteration of the benefits that the Company will be issued on the pots, caxones or bundles that contain , difficult to counterfeit trademarks. We choose two intelligent people who take care of that purchase wines that  are perfectly capable. "

On July 1, 1900 appears in the Rules of the Association of Wine Exporters Criadores Malaga to ensure the interests of  the wine trade, licenses, appointing arbitrators and experts, and especially by ensuring their label of origin legitimacy of the wines exported.

At the request of the unions of vintners and wine of Malaga won the September 8, 1933 granting a Board whose regulation, adopted on October 20, 1937 was in force until December 21. All covered by the Wine of Origin Málaga Denomincación be subject to appropriate analysis and the report of the Qualifications Committee, after which the   hearing will proceed or not to issue the certificate and the delivery of the seals garatía numbered.

In 1999 he published the Regulation 3 of the Designation of Origin "Málaga", published by Order of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries of June 24.

On January 9, 2001 published in the Official Gazette of Andalusia fourth regulation, which also recognizes the                  DO Sierras de Málaga, viniéndose to call the Regulatory Board of Denomination of Origin "Malaga" and " Sierras de Málaga ". The latter regulation was ratified by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food on 22 November 2001 and published in the Official Gazette of December 10 of that year.
